Each test has a specific failure mode you can check during a trial rather than discovering in month three.

How do I evaluate an LP data room before buying?

Run your own reporting cycle inside the trial rather than watching a vendor demo. Build the real folder structure, recreate your actual LP access map including the awkward cases, replace a published file to test version control, revoke a guest, and check whether analytics can tell you who hasn’t opened a document. Count every moment you’d have had to send a manual follow-up email — that count is your answer.

Why isn’t a feature comparison enough when choosing a data room?

A capability is not a workflow. “Granular permissions” tells you a setting exists, not whether configuring it for 40 LPs takes four minutes or four hours, or whether it survives the next reporting cycle. Feature parity also hides depth — two platforms can both claim analytics while only one answers “who hasn’t opened the capital-call notice due Friday.”

What does folder-level versus file-level permission mean for LP reporting?

Folder-level permissions control access to an entire folder. File-level permissions control individual documents inside it. The difference matters when one file needs different access from its folder — a side letter, an LPAC memo, an investor-specific statement. Without file-level control, funds end up building duplicate data rooms or emailing that document separately, which defeats the purpose. Digify includes folder-level permissions on every plan and file-level permissions on TEAM and ENTERPRISE.

Can a fund revoke a document after an LP has downloaded it?

With most platforms, no — download is the end of control. Digify’s Persistent Protection After Download keeps supported files under control after they leave the room, so access can still be revoked or expired offline, after the fact, on a third party’s device. It’s worth testing explicitly during a trial: download a file, revoke it, then try to open the downloaded copy.

How long does it take to set up an LP data room?

Building a usable structure takes an afternoon: numbered folders by reporting period, one historical period uploaded, and your access groups defined. The two-week trial protocol above spreads that across a fortnight only because it’s also testing version control, revocation, analytics and branding alongside the build.

결론

Feature lists describe what a platform can do. The 5F Test measures what it does without you.

Find, Fence, Fix, Follow up, Feel.
