About Alchemist Accelerator

Founded in 2013, Alchemist is one of the leading early-stage accelerators for enterprise-focused startups. With approximately 750 companies incubated to date, it runs six-month programs to help pre-seed and seed-stage companies close their first institutional VC rounds. Its own fund is backed by anchor LPs including major corporate venture arms, large Bay Area VCs, government entities, and sovereign wealth funds.

For Alchemist’s investor relations team, document governance is not a back-office function. It is how institutional credibility is signalled, and increasingly, what the firm teaches its founders to replicate.

Alchemist Accelerator raises from institutional limited partners, including corporate venture arms, government entities, and sovereign wealth funds. At that level, the infrastructure is part of the signal: current documents, clear audit trails, and controlled access are baseline expectations.

Alchemist runs its LP fundraising and investor relations on Digify. The platform has worked well enough that Alchemist is extending data rooms to its portfolio companies and building data room best practices into the fundraising curriculum for its accelerator cohorts.

Sorun

Like most funds, Alchemist previously managed LP document sharing through general-purpose cloud storage and collaboration tools. Those tools are built for internal collaboration, not for the governance and visibility institutional LPs expect. As the firm prepared to raise from a more demanding LP base, three requirements emerged that they could not meet.

First, a single source of truth. During an active raise, materials are updated frequently. Without centralized version control, there is no guarantee that every LP is reviewing the current version.

Second, engagement visibility. A warm intro and a strong first call do not guarantee follow-through. Without document analytics, there is no way to tell a serious prospect from one going quiet.

Third, differentiated disclosure. Different LPs have different diligence requirements — some need detailed portfolio breakdowns, others do not. Managing those distinctions across separate folders and email threads does not scale.

Çözüm

Alchemist evaluated several data room solutions. Digify had the three things they needed: a single governed environment for all LP materials, document analytics, and granular per-LP access control. The responsiveness of Digify’s support team during the evaluation mattered too: during a live fundraise, slow support is a risk.

One version of every document, always current. All materials live in a single Digify data room. When a deck is updated, it is replaced in place: the same link, the same folder. No resends. No version drift. LPs are always looking at the current document, whether they open it the day it is shared or two weeks later.

Analytics that show which LPs are actually engaged. Alchemist has visibility into what LPs do after a meeting. Which documents they opened. Which pages they spent time on. Whether they came back. Follow-up is driven by behaviour, not instinct.

"You might have a great conversation, but if the person doesn't actually engage with the documents, that gives you a signal of the trajectory of that conversation."

Granular per-LP permissions that make differentiated disclosure manageable. Digify’s folder and file-level permissions let Alchemist control exactly what each LP group can see — select investors receive additional materials not visible to anyone else, all within one centralized environment. No duplicate data rooms. No separate folder copies per LP.

"We're able to add documents and share them to only very specific LPs, rather than putting them into the standard data room."

Sonuç

Alchemist now runs LP materials through a single governed environment: one current version of every document, full access history, per-LP permissions managed centrally, and analytics informing every follow-up.

The relationship extends beyond Alchemist’s own fund. Digify is partnering with Alchemist to offer data rooms as a benefit to its portfolio companies, along with a curriculum on how to organize and structure data rooms effectively.

"The analytics can be very valuable to founders because founders often feel in the dark about where they might be in a VC's diligence process. Knowing that every investor is spending time on, say, the competition slide — that tells you something important about what to work on."
